Laser Hygiene Specialist

$14.50-$19.16/ hour! Your skills and work ethic can propel you quickly through the benchmark system designed to increase wages as position proficiency increases.  You hold the key to  how quickly you move from the New Hire rate then progressing to Qualifying, Level 1, Level 2 and finally to Level 3. Plus earn a $1.00 shift premium for 2nd shift!

Laser hygiene is the corner stone of optimal performance of precision laser cutting machines.  The Laser Hygiene Specialist works to ensure all laser profiling equipment is safely, routinely and expertly cleaned so that the laser fleet is always available as scheduled.

As a vital member of the Profiling team, the Laser Hygiene Specialist will assume full responsibility for all routine hygiene tasks necessary to ensure the integrity and optimal operation of GSM’s fleet of laser cutting machines.  Among others, these tasks include slat maintenance and replacement, routine cleaning of dust collectors, and replacing chiller filters to assure proper airflow.

Key Responsibilities and Purpose

  • Gathering & preparing all tools and supplies needed in advance of machine cleaning tasks to ensure “pit crew” style maintenance is performed
  • Checking and changing laser gas supplies to ensure consistent gas pressure to the lasers
  • Checking and cleaning out Dust Collection equipment on a regularly-scheduled basis
  • Checking and cleaning grid plates, bulkheads and flaps to ensure the interiors of the lasers are clean and free of built-up laser dust and slag
  • Checking and cleaning the automatic nozzle changers
  • Inspecting and cleaning light barriers to ensure they are in good working order
  • Cleaning all laser slats as scheduled with the assistance of the Laser Operator
  • Checking and replacing chiller filters as needed
  • Ensuring that all slag trays are emptied and cleaned daily
  • Assisting in annual laser maintenance activities as trained

Qualifications and Competencies

To perform this job successfully, the ideal candidate loves the accomplishment of providing clean equipment.  The individual must possess focus to detail, and maintain an optimistic and supportive attitude toward teammates and supervisors.  The individual will also demonstrate and maintain competency with the following programs and equipment:

  • Laptop or desktop computer
  • Office telephone system
  • Production software
  • Training resources and documentation relevant to this position
  • Relevant knowledge of fabrication equipment used in the Profiling Department
  • Proficient in using equipment needed to clean and maintain lasers


  • High School Diploma or equivalent (preferred)
  • Technical education related to manufacturing (preferred)


Experience in the use of laser equipment, hand and power tools normally found in a manufacturing environment.
