General Description

The Roll Machine Operator is responsible for safely, productively, and skillfully creating beautiful metal fabricated parts to print specifications.  These parts are to meet or exceed established quality and productivity standards.

 

This job description is intended to be an overview of primary responsibilities for this position.  All employees are responsible for providing assistance in generally similar duties, when management deems it necessary.  Special projects and activities may also be created where employees’ talents can best be applied. General Stamping & Metalworks is a growing organization and responding to an every changing market.  It is expected that tasks and requirements will change from time to time and employees will be asked to respond as needed and within reason.

Organizational Relationships and Authority

The Roll Operator reports directly to the Bending Supervisor.  

 

There are no direct reports to this position.  However, machine performance is the responsibility of the operator and any conditions that lower the expected output of the machine must be communicated to the shift supervisor. 

Key Responsibilities and Purpose

The primary responsibility of the Roll Operator is to produce metal fabricated parts to customer print specifications using a standard process.

 

Additional tasks include:

  • Expertly operating roll equipment (Davi experience preferred)
  • Assisting Press Brake and Tube Bending Operators when process requires two operators
  • Maintaining a pristine work environment by cleaning equipment and surrounding area as well as organizing tooling after the completion of each job
  • Supporting achievement of company standards in safety, productivity, and on-time production
  • Maintaining a satisfactory attendance record as outlined in the employee handbook
  • Using inspection devices (calipers, pin gauges, check fixtures) to inspect parts, according to print and product inspection plan
  • Gathering required documents (process photos, process inspection plans, job traveler, print, and work in process parts) to successfully run the job
  • Reading the print fully in order to understand tolerances and special instructions
  • Reading job traveler for special instructions
  • Labeling work in process parts and finished parts according to ISO policy
  • Separating and labeling non-conforming parts according to ISO policy
  • Wearing proper protective equipment as directed by equipment or process
  • Understanding safety requirements in work areas, and complying with requirements
  • Using material data sheets (MSDS) effectively
  • Participating in continuous improvement projects, both independently and as a team member, when requested or as the opportunity to volunteer presentsitself
  • Completing daily, weekly, monthly, and annual department maintenance as assigned
  • Offering process improvement ideas
  • Accurately entering job information, quantities, and inspection results into the ERP systems
  • Correctly clocking into and out of attendance systems

Qualifications and Competencies

To perform this job successfully, an individual must display the ability to read a blueprint and calculate positive and negative adjustments to produce parts to print specifications. They must possess basic computer skills including:

  • Desktop and workstation computer
  • Navigating ERP software

Listening Skills: Listens carefully to the input of others and gets clarification before generating conclusions; responds thoughtfully and non-defensively to questions.

Written Communication: Writes/types informatively.

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent or technical education classes (preferred)

Experience

  • Minimum of 6 months in a manufacturing environment, preferred

  • Wear common protective or safety equipment including hearing and eye protection
  • Work in non-air-conditioned, variable temperature factory setting
  • Speak clearly and understandably with a pleasant tone of voice and manner
  • Hear within a range that enables normal telephone communication
  • See a computer screen within reasonable reading distance without strain
  • Type at a keyboard without discomfort
  • Move around the office environment and manufacturing floor comfortably in order to fulfill tasks required in various offices and departments
  • Travel beyond the office environment by private or commercial aircraft, automobile, or golf cart without undue stress or discomfort
  • Repeat the same physical or mental activities repetitively while sustaining accuracy of work
  • Lift up to 55 lbs. independently
